Although it is not often talked about, many women have concerns about the size and shape of their labia, which may cause them to feel less confident. The labia (the external lips of the vaginal area) may look stretched or have hanging skin due to natural aging, pregnancy, childbirth, or physical trauma. A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of the labia minora and/or majora to create a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, improving the size and shape of the labia through surgical vaginal rejuvenation (Dr. James prefers the wedge technique to achieve this outcome). Labiaplasty may reduce irritation and discomfort while boosting confidence and sexual pleasure.
READY TO GET STARTED?

A labiaplasty is most often performed with a trimming technique to cut away excess tissue. Then, the remaining skin is sutured together. Another technique is the wedge technique to remove a triangular area of tissue and excess folds from the clitoris before suturing the skin closed. Surgery on the labia can be performed in our procedure room under local anesthetic so you can drive yourself to and from your appointment. If your treatment plan is more extensive, you may need general anesthesia at a nearby surgical facility, which will mean you need a responsible person to drive you home after your surgery. Dr. Rough will discuss the treatment plan and time estimates at your consultation so you can make any needed arrangements before your procedure.
